You want to help wave the flag and bang the drum for How to Begin?

Thank you!

It's Michael here...

I’m really grateful for anything you can do to help people get curious about How to Begin.

Word of mouth is always the most powerful and most gratifying way for books to become known, and I appreciate you believing enough in me and my work to consider telling some other folk.

On this page are various “assets”: images, photos, copy and so on that you can use in newsletters or social media or wherever. Scroll down and you’ll probably find what you’re looking for. And if not, email me at [email protected] and I’ll see what we can do.

Here’s what’s helpful (in approximately an order from highest impact down … although everything and anything is helpful!)

1

Write a review on an online platform (sooner rather than later)

If you were part of the pre-publication flurry, you might have got early access to the ebook. Which is fantastic, because you may just have read How to Begin, and you’re ready to let us all know what you think.

It’s best if you write it on the platform where you bought the book. Certainly, as an example, Amazon favours reviews from “verified purchasers”.

Scroll down for a short note from me on “how to write a cracking testimonial” (including some words I’m keen to have associated with the book) if you’re looking for some guidance.

2

Give it a shout out in your newsletter

I know most of us don’t have newsletters. But if you do have a bunch of people you email regularly, this is pretty much the most powerful recommendation.

A good link to share is this one, as it gives people a range of choices where to buy:

Introduce me to a high-profile podcast host

There are a LOT of podcasts out in the world these days, so I’m having to focus on ones with a substantial audience. I’d be particularly grateful for a warm introduction to:

  • Tim Ferris
  • Gretchen Rubin & Happier
  • Scott Barry Kaufman & The Psychology Podcast
  • John Maxwell
  • Ruth Tam & NPR Life Kit Podcast
  • The Human Upgrade with Dave Asprey
  • The Smart 7 with Jamie East
  • Impact Theory with Tom Bilyeu
  • Rich Roll
  • Chris Williamson and Modern Wisdom

(And I’ve got people who help me with social media, so it’s not always me posting …although I’ll be all in during the launch!)

You can use any of the images and copy that’s below if that’s helpful

AND … if I’m honest, I’d most love to see a photo of you with the book – it’s just very cool to see someone holding your book – and what you’ve found most useful or helpful or interesting or provocative.

How to write a cracking review or testimonial … with suggested words!

Thanks for considering writing a blurb for How to Begin. That’s very kind of you.

A blurb is often a mix of problem, benefit, adjective and your twist. Often two or three sentences is great.

Problem: stuck, in a rut, uncertain of what to do, lack of meaning, drifting, at a crossroads, scared of the future, not sure about your contribution, underwhelming goals, no longer growing and evolving

Benefit: reclaim your ambition, level up, make a difference, do work that matters, leave a legacy, find a path, start something, rediscover meaning, uncover purpose, become your best self, find focus, nurture courage, move into action, commit fully, momentum, increase impact

Adjectives we’re loving: practical, helpful, grounded, illuminating, funny, provocative, encouraging, personal, vulnerable, humor, realism, compelling, magical, frank, guide,

Your twist: is often about linking it in some way to your own work or life. For instance, Oliver Burkman (new book about time management) talks about “what to do with your ridiculously finite time on the planet)
