Is How to Work with
(Almost) Anyone
really any good?
It’s fantastic.
Practical enough to change the way you work with people. Short enough to finish. And funny enough to keep you entertained.
But remember, it’s Michael the author who’s writing all of this, so there’s a certain bias built in here. After all, I really want you to buy a couple of copies … and maybe more if you’re so inclined.
On the other hand, I’ve got a good track record. The Coaching Habit is the best-selling book on coaching this century, with well over 1 million copies sold.
Brené Brown thought it was so good that she had me on her podcast, and called it “a classic”. Seth Godin, the marketing guru, mentioned unprompted in a podcast that it was “the best book on coaching”.
And luckily, I have some other fantastic people who you can trust saying nice things.
Be the person who makes your
working relationships better
Ten things this
book will teach you
- 1 How critical your working relationships are to your success and happiness.
- 2 Why safe, vital, and repairable are the hallmarks of a flourishing and resilient working relationship.
- 3 The unexpected focus of a Keystone Conversation (this is what makes it work so well).
- 4 The Five Questions of the Keystone Conversation.
- 5 The one thing you need to do before any Keystone Conversation (and exactly how to prepare).
- 6 The exact words you can use to invite someone to a Keystone Conversation (this will make things easier for both of you).
- 7 How to finish a Keystone Conversation, so it ends strong and clear.
- 8 The six principles of maintenance, so things keep flourishing after the Keystone Conversation.
- 9 What to do with the “awkward” part of all of this. (You’re not the only one to think this might be awkward.)
- 10 Ten unique exercises to deepen your self-awareness, so you can bring your best to any working relationship.
About Michael Bungay Stanier
Hi, I’m Michael, sometimes called MBS.
This is my eighth or maybe ninth book, depending what you count. If you know any of my others, most likely it’s The Coaching Habit, which has sold more than a million copies and is the best-selling book on coaching this century. The one before this one was How to Begin (how to set a worthy goal as a way of unlocking your own greatness), and back in 2011 I created and edited End Malaria, a book I did in partnership with Seth Godin that raised more than $400k for Malaria No More.
I founded Box of Crayons, a learning and development company that’s trained lots of people around the world to be more coach-like (BoxOfCrayons.com). Currently much of my attention is given to MBS.works, where we provide people with the resources and community to unlock greatness: theirs, and others.
Still reading? OK. Other highlights include being happily married for nigh on thirty years, captaining my under-thirteen soccer team, presenting a TEDx Talk that’s seen by about 1.5 million people, being on Brené Brown’s podcast, knowing how to make a fair number of great cocktails, being a Rhodes Scholar, being sued by a law professor for defamation, surviving more than twenty Toronto winters, performing in a “nude male modelling” skit in the law revue at university, playing small roles in inventing stuffed crust pizza and a whisky nominated as “the worst single malt ever invented,” and liking my parents, two brothers, and their families.
