What Readers are Saying:

This concise, well-structured guide is an excellent resource for anyone eager to improve their professional communication

As a long-time admirer of MBS’s work, I was excited to delve into his latest offering, and it didn’t disappoint. His practical and actionable messages, consistent in all his works, shine through in this book.

As an introvert with over three decades in the business world, I found this book particularly impactful. Engaging in conversations doesn’t always come naturally to me, so having a straightforward blueprint for enhancing business relationships was incredibly valuable. Despite my extensive experience, I discovered new enlightening insights and approaches.

What stands out in this book is its focus on intentional relationship management. The emphasis on fostering curiosity, vulnerability, and kindness in professional interactions is refreshing. The concepts of ‘repair’ and ‘reset’ in relationships, which I believe are crucial, are addressed thoughtfully, offering practical strategies that can be seamlessly integrated into daily business practices.

This concise, well-structured guide is an excellent resource for anyone eager to improve their professional communication and leadership abilities. Whether you’re an introvert or an extrovert, a novice or a seasoned professional, this book offers valuable lessons.

The change every business…and the world needs

“This book is a critical message to the world of work and society. No longer are we going to settle as workers(human beings) for “bad work” (read busy work.) As a teacher of secondary age students, I share the messages of this book to encourage the skill /talents/knowing of my students
as they plan/imagine their adult lives and career paths.

This generation will not tolerate busy work…which unfortunately school often is for them. This great work book inspires us all to re-evaluate what we are doing with our precious time. It asks the questions and provides interactive maps and humor. A true joy to read and use as a tool for moving forward.”

In short, I loved the book.

My favorite line from the book: “It’s relationships all the way down”

Investing in your work relationships (and non-work relationships for that matter) has a disproportionate positive impact on EVERYTHING—your ability to create impact, your ability to support others, and simply how much you’re enjoying your time on this planet. I buy this 100%.

All of MBS’s books are pithy and funny, but most importantly, they’re useful. Five questions that can change (almost) any relationship for the better.

In short, I loved the book.

This is an immensely practical book, but don’t let its accessibility fool you – it’s profound at the same time.

After reading this book, I can now say that I have another must-read book for working better together. This is an immensely practical book, but don’t let its accessibility fool you – it’s profound at the same time. Each of the five questions allow conversants to choose their depth, in the sense that you can go really deep with them or keep it at the level of trust in the relationship. Most importantly to me, Michael Bungay Stanier honors that relationships will always need a level of maintenance and repair — too many authors make it seem like a one-time, seven-step process and that something’s “wrong” if maintenance and repair are needed. Pick this one up, practice the questions, and make it a team habit to come back to the questions often.
