Fancy meeting you here…

Fancy meeting you here….I’m Michael.

I’m best known for The Coaching Habit (the best-selling coaching book of the century), and more recently How to Work with (Almost) Anyone and the Change Signal podcast.

I speak about coaching and curiosity, the challenges of change, and how to create the best possible working relationships — all in service of helping people see things differently, and do something about it.

My keynotes run 60–90 minutes, are highly interactive (in a helpful, non-sucky way), and are known for being practical, engaging, and unexpectedly fun.

They start something. Sometimes small. Sometimes seismic.

How to Tame Your Advice Monster

Steve Morrow, Global Talent, Salesforce

“Michael’s session was short, sharp, engaging and effective. His high-energy, high-impact style was a great match, and his clear and compelling content was well received and easy to apply. Leaders have already applied learnings (at home and at work!) and we’re looking forward to the ongoing focus and impact of more coach-like leaders.”

Jean-Philippe Courtois, President, Microsoft Global Sales, Marketing and Operations EVP, Microsoft Corporation

“Being a coach-like manager and being coached is a core part of our culture at Microsoft. It’s how talented people thrive and grow. Michael Bungay Stanier has helped evolve how we think about coaching and how it can bring our growth mindset to life.”

Hubert Joly, Executive Chairman and former CEO, Best Buy

“Leadership is not about giving the best advice, it is about unlocking the potential of the people around you. Thank you, Michael Bungay Stanier, for reminding us of that and for providing such concrete thoughts on how to do it!”

Jeremy Darroch, Group CEO, Sky

“To get more from your people, you need to grow their capability and engagement, and step up yourself. A great way to do that is to give less advice and do more coaching.”

FAQs

Do you speak for free or for book sales?

Nope. I don’t do “exposure” or “it’ll help sell books” gigs. But I do try to make good work accessible — so if budget’s a constraint, we can talk about other ways to bring the ideas to your people.

Do you customize your talks?

Yes. Every talk is shaped to meet the needs and context of your audience.

Do you speak at virtual events?

Yes, if it’s done right. If I’m just another face in a sea of Zoom rectangles while your team catches up on Slack? Probably not. If you’re up for making virtual actually feel human and engaging, I’m in.

What’s your fee?

I don’t do a ton of speaking, so when I say yes, I want it to be a great fit — for both of us. My keynote fee typically starts at $50,000. I know that’s a meaningful investment, and I show up to make it worth it. If your budget’s in that range and the purpose feels right, I’d love to hear more.

Can you run a workshop, too?

Sometimes, yes. If it’s a fit but my talks are very interactive already so let’s talk about what you’re looking for. If you want The Coaching Habit specifically- head on over to Box of Crayons. They offer it In Person, Virtual, and On Demand.

How long are your keynotes?

Typically 60–90 minutes. They’re interactive, engaging, and designed to spark something useful. No filler. No fluff.

Here’s Where You Give Me Your Very Best Pitch

It’s kind of you to consider me as a speaker. I do love to be on stage in front of a crowd, and in the crowd interacting.

I’ve figured out that I need to limit my number of speaking gigs per year to twenty or fewer. (Also, four of these  will be at a reduced rate for non-profit or other social-good-doing organizations.)

With that restriction, I’d love to hear your very best pitch on why I should come and speak at your event. I’d love to give it a “Hell, yes!” because in my being-deeply-intentional-about-my-choices world, the alternative is “no”.
