Primrose Hill (and I didn’t get peed on this time)

Conspirators = reliably awesome humans. Where else can you find that?

I was back in London recently for the Thinkers50 conference, and I made a stop at Primrose Hill, where my career began.

My first ever “real” job, something requiring a Monday to Friday each and every day commitment that stretched on forever, was at an innovation agency in London (now swallowed up by one of the big consultancies).

The two founders had decided they needed help, and I was one of two graduate students they hired to do some of the grunt work, even though I had no idea what it was they did.

This was in the early 90s, before “innovation” had become a thing. So trying to explain the job to my family had left all of us more confused than before I’d started.

But still. The start of my career!

On my first day, at lunch, I took a short walk up the road and sat on the grass of Primrose Hill to eat the sandwich I’d brought from home.

It was late summer, and a cute little dog approached me as I ate.

It lifted its leg. And it peed on me.

I took this to be a statement from the gods about me joining the world of commerce, and the prospects of my newly minted career.

What brought me back

This time, when I visited Primrose Hill, I was accompanied by a group of nine fellow Conspirators, who’d travelled in to spend a morning hanging out.

More than a few of them had set out at 4am that day from various parts of the UK, determined to make the meeting. They sensed, correctly, that it was going to be just a little bit magical.

Let me tell you a secret about The Conspiracy …

A fair number of people join because they’ve come across my work somewhere, somehow, and it’s spoken to them. It’s really flattering.

But there’s a bit of “bait and switch” here.

People may come initially for me, but they stay for the work they do, progress made on a Worthy Goal, and for the new and remarkable people they meet.

Make no mistake, I’ve designed The Conspiracy to be infused with an “MBS vibe”, I teach and coach once a month live, and I’m back and forth on the boards checking in every week.

But what I love is people finding their people.

(By the way, doors opened TODAY for The Conspiracy January 2026 cohort. You can check it out here.)

What have you learned in the last year?

When we finally found our way to a café, we shared a conversation flowing from the question, “What have you learned in the last year?”

People spoke in such a delightful way of progress made on Worthy Goals, along with growing courage, confidence, self-belief, and enjoyment.

In that moment, my answer to my own question was that one of my current Worthy Goals had revealed itself to be … hmmm how to say this … less worthy.

It’s right in so many ways, but it’s also not quite Thrilling, or Important, or Daunting enough. Which happens! One of the deep truths of The Conspiracy is that your Worthy Goal will evolve, shift, and be revealed

People join to do their Worthy Goal, but the first step is often finding or redefining what that is. That’s the call to adventure.

But as I type this, I’d answer that what I’ve learned in the last year is the importance of finding your people and staying connected to them

This was the fifth in-person Conspirator gathering I’ve been part of, but there have been plenty without me. The inaugural Vienna meet-up just happened. (Vienna! How amazing.)

In a world that’s trending towards more isolation, not less, if you can be a host, a gatherer, a collector, a connector of good people … that’s a great gift. And a much-needed act.

That’s what The Conspiracy is here to do.

If a reliable place to show up (full of reliably awesome humans) could fuel you and whatever you’ve got planned for 2026, I’d love for you to join us.

Doors are now open until December 16th. We begin January 2nd.
