Dreaming of hammock time while I’m working out

The Most Important Type of Fitness

About 45 seconds after I start to workout, a talktrack starts in my mind:

Why don’t you stop working out, Michael?

Is that knee/elbow/finger giving you trouble? It’s OK to stop, you know.

You’re already pretty fit. Why don’t you take it easy today?

Is this routine even any good? Just stop and come back tomorrow.

It turns out that I work out not only to build a little bit of muscle and a certain amount of cardio fitness. What I’m really working out is how not to quit. I’m learning how to keep going when things get hard.
